Annual Family Survey Results

A summary of what parents told us
in 2021 and what we are doing with it

Each year Telethon Speech & Hearing conducts a family survey to ensure we continue to provide services that are meeting the needs of you and your family. At the end of 2021, just over one third of Telethon Speech & Hearing families (135 families) participated in the survey.

Our 2021 survey data indicated that the vast majority of families perceived that the program was meeting their child’s needs and were either highly satisfied or satisfied with the progress their child was making. Almost all families agreed that Telethon Speech & Hearing staff were approachable and professional, with 83.5% of families strongly agreeing. The vast majority of families reported that they felt supported by the staff. The majority of the families were also either satisfied or highly satisfied with our administrative services and facilities.

We appreciate all families who took the time to express both positive and constructive feedback to us. Our Leadership Team has been working on responding to suggestions.

For example:

  • In our Talkabout Playgroups some of you asked to have more time to connect with other parents. We have heard this feedback and have adjusted the frequency of our parent education sessions to allow parents and caregivers time to chat, connect and share.

  • In our Talkabout 4 and 5 programs some of you asked for clarity on the roles of the Allied Health team in the program. You also told us you would value more opportunities for quick catch ups with this team. We have taken this on board and we are updating our enrolment packs to include more information on the roles of the staff in this team. We are also ensuring our Allied Health time have scheduled opportunities to connect with you all.

  • In Chatterbox and Clinics we are aware that families have experiencing difficulties making contact with our therapy staff. In 2022 the team are working to ensure timely communication with all families.

  • Finally, in our Outpost program, some of you with children in the primary schools asked for more opportunities for parent tutorials, where you come in and join the Teacher for a session with your child. We have discussed this at team level and our teaching team are looking forward to offering this  when schools once again open up to parents in the classrooms.

2021 Survey Key Findings

These figures convey results for our Chatterbox, Outpost and Talkabout programs, and Language Support Groups.

94.9%

of families reported that our programs were meeting their child’s individual learning needs.

96.2%

of families indicated their satisfaction with the progress that their child was making.

98.1%

of families expressed that the teaching staff in their programs were approachable and professional.

91.6%

of families felt supported by the program staff.

95.3%

of families perceived their child’s confidence had improved since attending Telethon Speech & Hearing.

We note that survey participation rates have declined, and that this is a continuing trend. We would like to explore possible alternative formats for feedback for 2022. We are keen to hear from as many of you as possible to ensure we continually improve in our service delivery and our support for all in our Telethon Speech & Hearing community.
