Providing a positive and supportive space for parents and children with hearing loss to connect on a regular basis.
Here at Telethon Speech & Hearing, we provide support to parents and caregivers by helping you and your child connect with other families who are on similar hearing journeys. The advantage of groups is that parents get to meet with other people who have the same concerns and who are living the same difficulties. Professionals who have been in the field for a while have heard a lot and have extensive knowledge, but it is not first-hand experience like a family or child dealing with it!
August saw our first ever Chatterbox group for families in Cockburn! Our first group was hosted by our Speech Pathology team and focused on developing early social skills.
Chatterbox group runs from 10:00am to 12:00pm. We begin with a short mat session targeted at developing the children’s listening and language within a group environment. Thereafter we have activities available for the children, whilst parents can engage with one another and enjoy a talk by one of our allied health team. The group also aims to teach families strategies and techniques to support their child’s development.
Monday, 31st October – Psychology talk: The 4S’s
Monday, 21st November – Audiology talk: Topic to be confirmed (Please note this date has changed from the initial save the save sent to families)
If you are interested in joining on of our upcoming groups in Cockburn please RSVP to Head of Clinical Services, Kerry Picotti. We look forward to seeing you there!
