Julie’s Book Corner

Reminders and recommendations from our Librarian, Julie Cox

Book Week

From fairies, superheroes, animals and magicians - Telethon Speech & Hearing's classrooms filled with an array of colourful, charming personalities as children roamed around as their favourite book characters for Book Week this August!

Book Week is an annual event organised by the Children’s Book Council of Australia and has been held every year since 1945. It is a celebration of Australian children’s books, their authors and illustrators. Celebrations take place in schools and libraries across Australia with displays, storytelling and reading, competitions and parades. A favourite activity for many is dressing up as storybook characters.

Our Library Has Moved

This year's Book Week theme was "Dreaming with Eyes Open", with author-illustrator Jasmine Seymour chosen to illustrate this year's Book Week poster.

This year's theme provided some gorgeous, creative inspiration for our students to dress up for. It also coincided with the relocation and renovation of our Library, which occurred over the Term Two holidays.

Our Library has now moved into the Wyllie building closer to our Talkabout classrooms.

Here are some fun highlights featuring our Talkabout and Chatterbox students and staff, taking part in a costume parade, bookmark collection, and ‘official’ ribbon-cutting for our new library!
