Youth Leadership Team Meeting
An Evening of Art
The Youth Leadership Team consists of students from our Outpost schools from Years 7 to 12. Once a term they come together to meet and enjoy time with their peers. The participation, discussions and activities are guided by the students themselves giving them the experience to lead within their peer group. The team volunteers at our events such as the Power of Speech, arranging movie nights for the Outpost Schools and other Telethon Speech & Hearing events.
The evening involves teachers from the Outpost schools and when we meet face to face, parents are invited to attend by coming together to discuss topics relevant in supporting their needs. We have had speakers on transition to High School, NDIS, teenager issues and time to chat with others who are on the same journey as them.
On Wednesday 23 March 2022 the Youth Leadership Team meeting was held for the first time online. It was a fun night had by both students and teachers.
The night was themed, ‘An Evening of Art’ and what artists we have in our Outpost Programs! The night began with an introduction to the night, some catching up with friends through TEAMS and a Kahootz quiz on Art. Our students knew their art history and were quite competitive.
We then took a brief virtual tour through the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. It shared some history on Van Gogh and his artworks.
Next came the fun part of the eventing. The students were asked to have with them prior to the meeting, two Artline pens and a some A5 paper. The students followed step by step instructions on how to draw ‘Starry Night’ a famous artwork by Van Gogh. The students enjoyed this activity and were quite proud of their achievements.
The Youth Leadership Team will continue online meetings until people are comfortable to return to face to face.
